Update: Meghan Markle will walk down part of the aisle on her own at her royal wedding tomorrow afternoon, according to Kensington Palace.

In the statement announcing the 36-year-old had asked Prince Charles to accompany her down the aisle, the comment clearly states the Prince of Wales won't walk the bride down the entire aisle.

St. George's Chapel is a church separated into two sections; the Quire referenced in the statement is sectioned off from the rest of the space. It's where the altar is, and also where the royal family and other close friends of the bride and groom will likely sit at the wedding.

However, the majority of the wedding guests will sit in the other part of the church, which is called the nave.

Several royal correspondents have shared overview plans of the chapel to illustrate this point:

As a result, Meghan will walk part of the aisle on her own. It is also suggested Prince Charles won't be 'giving the bride away'.

Kensington Palace confirmed the news that Prince Charles had stepped in on Friday morning.

'Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George's Chapel on her Wedding Day,' the Palace said in a statement. 'The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.'

Markle had planned to have her father, Thomas Markle Sr., accompany her down the chapel's aisle. But everything changed after Thomas admitted to staging paparazzi photographs of himself.

The scandal that followed led him to say he would no longer attend the wedding in fear of embarrassing his daughter. Later in the week, he said he didn't want to miss the big day and despite reports of him undergoing heart surgery, he hoped to be there.

On Thursday, Markle announced that her father would not be travelling to Windsor due to health reasons.

'Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding,' she said. 'I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health. I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support.'

There had been speculation that Markle might have asked her mother, Doria Ragland, to give her away. Doria arrived in the UK earlier this week and has already met with Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, at Clarence House. It's understood that Doria will be introduced to the Queen at Windsor Castle today, before she joins her daughter at Cliveden House Hotel on Friday evening.

Markle's mother will join her from the hotel to St George's Chapel for the midday ceremony on Saturday.
