Based on Alice Oseman's graphic novels of the same name, Heartstopper follows the friendship between high school teens Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor). But the pair soon realise that there might be something more between them.

What ensues is a coming-of-age love story that will make you laugh, cry and yearn for your teenage years in a way you never thought you would. This is everything we know so far about Heartstopper season three.

Who will star in Heartstopper season 3?

Many of the main cast members are expected to reprise their roles in the third season, including Kit Connor as Nick, Joe Locke as Charlie, Yasmin Finney as Elle, William Gao as Tao, Corinna Brown as Tara, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy, Tobie Donovan as Isaac and Rhea Norwood as Imogen.

Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey, Hayley Attwell and Eddie Marsan have also signed on to star in the next season.

The only difference is Sebastian Croft’s character, Ben, whose Heartstopper journey, according to Oseman, ‘is now complete.’

‘We were in constant debate about finding the line between Ben being unrealistically demonic and too sympathetic,’ Oseman said to Netflix. ‘I feel we found that line and I am so proud and honoured that Sebastian has been a part of Heartstopper. I know that he’ll go on to do incredible things, and I will be cheering from the sidelines all the way.’

What will the plot of Heartstopper season 3 be?

Heartstopper season three will adapt the fourth volume of Oseman’s series, which sees Charlie and Nick venture to college with Nick coming out to his dad and Charlie battling mental health and eating disorder.

Per the season’s official description, 'Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him. Nick also has something important to say to Charlie. As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realise that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges. As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.'

While little is known so far about the plotline of the third season, Locke suggested in an interview with Deadline from May 2024 that the series' third outing may be a bit different than the others.

'It’s definitely a more grown-up season,' he shared. 'We deal with darker issues, Charlie’s mental health is a big focus. And it’s still Heartstopper, so there’s always the light at the end of the tunnel, which is a really great way of dealing with issues like that.'

When will Heartstopper season 3 be released?

The first season of Heartstopper debuted on April 22 2022 and the second was released on 3 August.

The wait is finally over as on May 13, Netflix finally announced the official release date of the third season. With just under five months to go, the series will be back on our screens on October 3. To keep you going until the premiere, the streamer has thankfully graced us with a sneak peek of what it is to come.
